Title: Sports Journalist Intern


Description: The Hartnell College Director of Communications & Marketing is seeking photography and journalism student interns for 2018-19. This is a great opportunity for a student considering a career in photography, marketing and/or journalism. You will help us connect Hartnell students and other fans to Panther Athletics.

Responsibilities: The intern will attend meetings, games and events to assist the athletics marketing and social media coordinator with writing reports and taking photos of athletic competitions and related events.The intern will also be expected to update the Hartnell Athletics website and social media. In addition, the intern will be expected to wear the Panther mascot costume at specified athletic events and other functions.


Learning outcomes: This position will build skills in organization and multitasking, while providing experience in sports journalism, photography, marketing and communication.


Qualifications and requirements:

  • Experience working in an office

  • An interest in digital photography

  • Use of basic Word, Google Mail, Drive and other Google office applications, with knowledge of Photoshop, Publisher and InDesign helpful

  • Current Hartnell student

  • Strong communication (oral, writing and presentation) skills

  • Detail-oriented

  • Professional presence and demeanor

  • Commit for a full semester or the entire year

  • Avid social media user

Salary level: $500 stipend in two payments
