Panthers split first two games against San Fran City

Hartnell Baseball started its 2019 season on Jan. 25 with a 7-3 road win over San Francisco
City. Chris Wright (Trinity Christian H.S.) had a solid freshman debut, going three for five at the
plate with a home run and four RBIs. Ubaldo Romo (Buhach Colony H.S.) earned the victory on
the mound, striking out four batters while going three and a third innings in relief.


Hosting San Francisco City on Jan. 26, Hartnell came up short, 2-5. The Panthers struggled
early, allowing five runs in the first two innings. Their only runs came in the bottom of the second
inning. Ryan Rivera (Watsonville H.S.) pitched three scoreless innings in relief. Tommy Castro
(Gilroy H.S.) threw the final four innings for Hartnell, allowing just three hits while striking out
nine Rams batters. Demetrius Petty (Starkville H.S.) led Hartnell’s offense with 2 hits.


Hartnell will travel to West Valley College on Jan. 29, then complete a three-day home series
against Redwoods, beginning at 2 p.m. on Feb. 1 followed by a doubleheader on Feb. 2, with
games at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
