Prior to Hartnell: Arturo competed just down the street from Hartnell at Palma High School. A frequent visitor to the Hartnell track, Arturo placed eighth as a senior in the Monterey Bay League Championship and recorded a solid 17:39 run at Woodwad Park at the Clovis Invitational. Arturo only competed in cross country his final two years for the Chietains.
"Arturo has already shown me he is a very dedicated runner and is thirsty for the work and knowledge to take his running to the next level. At nearly 6'2", his stride length will surely grown into one of his strengths but right now he's still growing and learning how to use it. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't see how it will help at the Toro Park home meet with the downhill 1200m to the finish giving him a chance to fly! With only two years of training under his belt, he has some extra work he needs to do to catch up to those who ran all four years but I know he's willing to do the work."
