Softball update by Cathleen Watts
We started the weekend off with a great win at home Thursday against Ohlone (4-3). They had been riding a 15 game winning streak before their 1 run loss to Dee Caoili. We led most of the game but they tied us in the 5th inning 3-3. Emily Espino lead off in the bottom of the 7th, Kaitlyn Doyle then hit a game winning sacrifice fly after a sacrifice bunt moved Emily to third base. It was a complete team victory! This kept us in first place.
We are now in Ventura (Saturday and Sunday) playing a four game schedule: 2 games Saturday and 2 games Sunday. Saturday the first game we won 13-0 against Victor Valley. Our winning pitcher was Dee Caoili. Game two gave us the same result 13-0 with Kaitlyn Doyle getting the win. All Saturday we hit the ball hard and often.
Sunday in our first game against the home team, Ventura, we held the lead 4-2 but with 2 outs, we failed to get the third out at first base when our first baseman pulled off the bag by a throw from our pitcher. They were in the top of the order and made us pay for it taking a 6-4 lead. We were unable to overcome the momentum and ended up losing 6-4. In the last game of the weekend, we played San Diego. We took a 5-1 lead into the top of the 6th inning. Top hitters in the game each with 2 hits were: Kaitlyn Shipman, Dre Guttierez, Harlee Noda, and Kaitlyn Doyle (the winning pitcher). All in all this weekend was a success. Next week, we have 1 lone game Tuesday at Chabot in Hayward.
