Hartnell Panthers take a splash against American River
On February 10 and 11, 2017 Hartnell College Men’s Baseball Team played two games against American River. The Hartnell Panthers entered the field in hopes to redeem themselves from their big loss against Golden West in Sequoias, with the final score of 10-0, making it 3 losses in a row for the Men’s Baseball Team. On Friday, the Hartnell Panthers and American River had been going toe to toe with the “strikes” and “outs,” making it difficult for either team to score a run. Finally, by the third inning, Panther’s batters Kenji Yamaguchi (#14) and Zach Foster (#16) were able to break the silence and put themselves at a two-run lead! It wasn’t until the sixth inning that American River scored its first run. American River scored six more runs during the eighth and ninth inning. The Panthers fell short and lost towards the very end with a score 7-3.
The next day, the Panthers were ready to take revenge for their loss to American River. The first couple of innings started off with an aggressive tango between the two; both teams preventing the other from touching home plate. The game belonged to American River; they had scored four runs in the fourth inning and five more throughout unitl the eighth. The score had been 9-1. Not ready to give up, the Hartnell Panther’s second baseman, Adam Tanoue (#3) struck a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, changing the score from 9-1 to 9-4. Although the Panthers lost against American River, they still played with a winner’s attitude from start to finish.
