Student-athlete spotlight: J’uan Campbell
For this week’s Student-Athlete Spotlight we recognize J’uan Campbell, wide receiver for the Hartnell Football team. As unstoppable as he is on the field, off the field J’uan is succeeding in all he does. Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, J’uan was exposed to harsh realities from a young age, with Baltimore having one of the highest murder rates in our country. The tough environment molded Campbell into an honest man. With the help of his family, especially his mother, he has always stayed on the right path to be the great person he is today. In Baltimore, he attended Dunbar High School and played football all four years. Dunbar has produced great football players before like Tavon Austin, who currently plays for the L.A Rams; he is one Campbell looks up to. Like Austin, Campbell has unbelievable speed that has allowed him to average over 90 yards in receiving this season, and produce 5 touchdowns. J’uan knows this is his biggest strength; defensive backs have to be 15 yards back just to stay with him! Campbell is into his second season playing for the Panthers. Returning this year has given him a bigger role - he has more leadership and influence on the team. Hartnell Football Head Coach, Matt Collins has been a great influence on him by pushing him to lead and succeed as a player, and more importantly, as a student. Campbell is currently working towards finishing his general education with an emphasis in social and behavioral science. He hopes to be recruited and play professionally. As things stand now, recruits have already lined up to see his special talent; schools such as University of Idaho have shown interest. At the end of the day, what he values most is his family and no matter what door opens, he will do everything he can to take care of them. We wish J’uan all the best as he finishes the season. Go Panthers!!
