RB Walker will join the Falcons squad at Friends U.
Sophomore running back Cameron Walker will transfer to Friends University in Wichita, Kan., in fall 2019 to study and compete as a member of the school’s football team.
Walker, a graduate of Salinas High School, plans to major in business and Spanish at Friends. During the 2018-19 season, he had 20 rushes, with an average of 3.8 yards, and scored one touchdown.
He credits his experience at Hartnell with giving him the opportunity to continue his football career and prepare for a future career.
“I definitely feel ready to move over to Kansas,” said Walker, who signed a letter of intent to play for the Falcons at Friends on June 3. “In the athletic aspect, I feel that Hartnell is a good stepping stone in getting to the next level. You play bigger and faster people. Practicing against grown men is different than playing in high school. Academically, the library and Panther Lab (tutoring center) were extremely helpful.”
Hartnell Head Football Coach Matt Collins said he is happy for all of his team members who are heading to other colleges and universities.
“I wish these guys good luck on their athletics endeavors as well as their academics,” he said. “The recruiting process is always difficult, but I am proud of these guys and that they have an opportunity to go out and experience this world and new things, cultures and ways of life.”
