DB Olmos will join Mountaineers of Western Colorado
Sophomore defensive back Christian Olmos will transfer to Western Colorado University in Gunnison, Colo., in fall 2019 to study and compete as a member of the school’s football team.
Olmos, a graduate of King City High School, plans to major in kinesiology at Western Colorado.
During the 2018-19 season, he had 36 solo tackles and five assists, with an average of 3.7 tackles per game, and one interception.
He said he feels ready to join the Mountaineers and pursue his degree.
“I chose Hartnell because I felt that it was a right fit for me,” Olmos said at his signing event on June 3. “I knew I wanted to come in and earn a scholarship, which here I am today. I learned a lot, school wise. I did a lot of tutoring, and I feel that really helped me, as well as all my teachers were always very helpful.”
Hartnell Head Coach Matt Collins said he is proud of Olmos and other team members who are continuing their football and academic careers.
“I am proud of these guys and that they have an opportunity to go out and experience this world and new things, cultures and ways of life,” he said. “I would imagine that they will come back to this community as leaders in their own right.”
