Hunter Signs With the University of Alaska Anchorage
Tim Hunter, a graduate of North Salinas High School, has chosen to continue his athletic and academic career at the University of Alaska Anchorage starting fall 2021. Tim was a member of the All-American 4x100 meter relay time that ran 41.30 during the 2019 season, the second fastest in school history. Tim and his three teammates had two performances during the 2019 season that would have ranked them #2 all-time but they saved their best one for the final race of the season. The team placed third overall despite rainy conditions at the 2019 CCCAA State Championship at the College of San Mateo. The 4x100 team is only one of two to qualify for to the state championship in the last 15 years. Tim was also a member of the 4x400 relay that placed seventh in the state championship and whom's season best time of 3:18.39 ranks them eleventh fastest in program history. The 4x400 relay team is the only one to qualify for the state championship in the last 15 years.
Despite only having one full season to compete as a Panther, his freshman individual performance of 10.94 in the 100m ranks his 21st all-time in program history. He also had a season best of 22.26 in the 200m which met the provisional qualifying time to compete at the Northern California Championship. The COVID-19 pandemic cut his sophomore season short after just three meets but he did post a lifetime best of 50.87 to win the 400 meters at the Wildcat Cup at Cuesta College. Tim spent this last year competing unattached while completing his degree requirements. He posted his second fastest 200m time of 22.27 at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance despite only practicing three days a week due athletic protocols. Tim will receive his AA degree in Kinesiology and pursue a four year degree in the same discipline at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He will compete for the Seawolves in the sprints and relays and continue a pipeline of Hartnell College athletes that have ventured north to the 49th state of the union that began in 2014. Tim will become our first sprint athlete to join the UAA program which is a NCAA DII program that compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
