Men's 4x400 Achieves State Standard at Mike Fanelli
The Hartnell men's 4x400 relay has been waiting for just the right day to take a shot at the State "B" and it finally came at the Mike Fanelli Classic in San Francisco. With a team of Jose Cota, Adrian Manriquez, Eduardo Manriquez, and Jacob Dizon the quartet lowered their season best to 3:25.21 to meet the standard. The team will need to run one to two seconds fastest to be in the top 9 heat at the Northern California Championship on May 2-3 at Butte College.
Jose Cota started his day with a season best 1:58.22 in the 800 meters. This was his second best time of his career. Jacob Dizon dipped under 2:00 for just the third time in his career at 1:59.07. Elijah Melchor (2:02.61) and Jesse Blanco (2:02.62) were the next fastest Panthers. Blanco gave the State "A" another shot in the 5000m but came up short in 15:15.38, needing three more seconds. Melchor also ran a season best 4:12.22 in his 1500 meter heat. Freshman Ivan Martinez-Galindo was top freshmen in the 5000m (16:02.66) with Alvaro Ruelas (16:06.75) and Leyder Hernandez (16:08.00) both within six seconds of Martinez-Galindo. Adrian Manriquez improved in the 110mHH to 18.22 to prep for the Norcal Decathlon. Gianni Ponce cleared 1.74m in the high jump with Logan Bayhonan achieving 6.10m in the long jump. Freshman Corbin Osborn lead all Hartnell jumps in the triple jump with a best of 12.61m.
The Panthers will compete next at the UCSB Open on Saturday, April 12th for the time first time ever.
