Men Finish Eleventh at Norcals
The Hartnell College men were able to place several athletes and its 4x400 relay team on the podium at the 2025 Northern California Championship held at Butte College over two days. The men's team place eleventh out of 22 teams and will advance two men to the 32CA State Chanmpionship on May 16-17 at the College of San Mateo.
Sophomore Jesse Blanco is closing out his Hartnell College career and was able to place second in the 10,000 meters on Friday in 33:01.50 and sixth in the 5000 meters in 15:29.07. Blanco, who achieved the State "A" mark at the Coast Conference Championship in the 10,000 meters, will compete for the second time at the state meet in the 25 lap race after qualifying as a freshman. Armando Amaro Moreno was fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.44m and will advance to state. He was just fourteenth as a freshman. Jesus Martinez pickedup a sixth place medal in the 10,000 meters running 34:02.21 in very warm conditions. As a freshman in 2023, Jesus did not advance beyond the conference championship. Jose Cota moved up two spots from last year in the 800 meters finishing seventh in 1:56.78. Cota posted a lifetime best 1:56.31 in the trials run on Friday. Giancarlo Mendo represented well in the 1500 meter final placing seventh in 4:05.46. The 4x400 relay team of Cota, Jacob Dizon, Adrian Manriquez, and Eduardo Manriquez placed eighth in a season best 3:20.64, winning the slow heat and posting a faster time than two teams in the fast heat. Julian Guajardo tossed a lifetime best 42.30m in the javelin in the first round that would stick for eighth best in the competition and send him back to Salinas with a medal to conclude his career. Adrian Manriquez placed ninth in the 400m running 49.64 for his third sub 50 second clocking of his freshman year.
Those competing who did not advance into the final were Adrian Manriquez in the 400mIH (57.77), Jacob Dizon in the 800 meters (2:00:59) and Guajardo (2:01.50), Ivan Martinez-Galindo (4:11.90), Aaron Eldredge (4;15.99), Gabriel Clemente (4:18.61), and Jacob Duff (4:21.45) in the 1500 meters. Carl Andy Sabado (37.24m) and Melquaides Garibay (35.18m) competed in the hammer throw. Bryan Ortega competed in both the shot put (11.00m) and discus (38.49m) in his first year. Adrian Manriquez (6.16m), Logan Bayhonan (5.92m), and Gianni Ponce (5.31m) all competed in the long jump. Corbin Osborn (12.65m), Ponce (12.58m), and Bayhonan (12.06) all got first year triple jump experience. Galen Okamoto was tenth in the 3k steeplechase with a personal best 10:27.70. Alvaro Ruelas (10:53.30) and Elijah Melchor (10:53.56) also finished. In the men's 10,000 meters, Ivan Martinez-Galindo (35:07.95), Alvaro Ruelas (35:26.63), Juan Gonzalez (35:31.99) finished ninth, tenth, and eleventh. Marcus Serrano was timed in 37:08.16. Jesus Martinez (16:03.17), Giancarlo Mendo (16:24.33), Leyder Hernandez (16:26.81), Martinez-Galindo (16:38.85), Melchor (16:46.61), Gonzalez (16:53.42), and Ruelas (16:55.26) all completed the race. The men's 4x100 relay team of both Manriquez brother, Ponce, and Julian Chuca ran 43.21. Ponce cleared 1.75m in the high jump. Adrian Manriquez set a personal best in the trials of the 110mHH (17.48).
