Hartnell College men’s and women’s track & field teams set eleven new men’s and eight new women’s program records
Competing for the second time ever inside the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, the Hartnell College men’s and women’s track & field teams set eleven new men’s and eight new women’s program records.
Competing for the second time ever inside the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, the Hartnell College men's and women's track & field teams set eleven new men's and eight new women's program records. The competition held over two days on the 200m banked Mondo surfaced track at an elevation of 4500 feet above sea level, brought mostly four year programs from as far away as Alaska and from five states.
On day one, sophomore Jenna Emerson set a new 400m program record in 60.57. Freshman Crystal Madrigal set the program record in the mile at 5:27.41, lowering the previous mark by 11 seconds. Freshman Joceline Carrasco improved on the program record in the shot put to 28-01.00. Madrigal and Emerson would compete with freshmen Gabriela Cardenas and Deisy Gracida Gabriel in the Distance Medley Relay for the first time. The foursome set a program record in 13:27.54. For the men, freshman Ulises Hernandez Aguilar set a program record in the 400m (53.23) as did sophomore Logan Bayhonan in the long jump (21-06.75). Bayhonan set a lifetime best in the long jump while adding over a foot and a half to the previous record. Freshman Joshua Na added 11 feet to the 35 lb weight throw mark with his toss of 47-05.75. Sophomore Alvaro Ruelas took 45 seconds off the 5000m mark, lowering it to 16:40.49. Freshman Alex Acevedo established a new 800m record at 2:03.13.
On day two, Emerson would add the 60m and triple jump records to her resume in 8.48 and 32-05.00. Freshman Jenna Partida set a 600m record in 1:54.19. Madrigal returned to the track to take over 60 seconds off the 3000m mark in 11:02.36. For the men, Acevedo established a program record in the 600m in 1:28.40. Freshman Nathaniel Aguilar Aceves triple jumped 45-00.75 to set the program record. Freshman Erik Luna Bedolla ran 9:06.75 to lower the 3000m record by six seconds. Joshua Na added nine feet to the shot put record with his toss of 45-05.25. The 4x400 relay team of Ulises Hernandez Aguilar, Xavier Quintero, Alex Acevedo, and Corbin Osborn took three seconds off the program record with their 3:33.51.
The Panthers will now shift their efforts to the full 400m lap distance next Friday at the Wildcat Cup at Merritt College in Oakland. This competition pits programs with former CSU Chico athletes now coaches against each other.
