Men's track & field competed in a three way dual meet
The Hartnell College men’s and women’s track & field squads competed in a three way dual meet with Cuesta College and Allan Hancock College on Friday.
The Hartnell College men's and women's track & field squads competed in a three way dual meet with Cuesta College and Allan Hancock College on Friday. The three team challenge followed the unique double dual meet scoring format, scoring only each team versus the other. Hartnell College enjoyed the highest total top 3 finishes with a near even distribution of 11, 13, and 13 first, second and third place finishes combined. They outdistanced host Cuesta College by seven top finishes. The men tallied 20 of the team's 37 top 3 finishes and easily outdistanced Cuesta College by eight top 3 finishes.
In the men's competition, freshman Nathaniel Aceves Aguilar posted three personal bests starting with the pole vault with a clearance of 3.50 meters. He would run the 100m in 11.99 for his first ever sub 12 second clocking and then long jump 6.70m to win the long jump competition. Sophomore Gianni Ponce met the State "B" mark in the high jump in his debut at 1.80m. Ponce would also post a solid season opening triple jump of 13.32. Sophomore Corbin Osborn won the 100m in 11.56 and doubled the performance with a team-leading 13.42m season best in the triple jump. Sophomore Ivan Martinez-Galindo debuted in the 2000m steeplechase in 6:35.11 to take over the Norcal lead in the event. Joshua Na won the discus competition with a throw of 40.97m and Aiden Ishamiru broke the 40 meter barrier in the javelin with his first meet ever in the event at 41.29m. Ishamiru also won the hammer throw with a mark of 45.17m. Sophomore Adrian Manriquez was the fastest 200 meter competitor at 22.94 and helped the 4x400 relay team win in 3:28.37.
The Panthers will compete in their first four year university hosted outdoor meet on March 6-7 at CSU Stanislaus in Turlock, CA.
