On Friday, the Panthers got a preview of the host site of this spring's Northern California Championship to be held at Santa Rosa Junior College on May 1-2. The meet was highlighted by top marks by sophomore Jenna Emerson in the long sprints and sophomore Aiden Ishimaru in the hammer throw, which was contested at home on Thursday at Hartnell College. Despite not competing most of the distance crew, the Hartnell women placed sixth overall as a team and the men were seventh.
Aiden Ishimaru unleashed the eighth best hammer mark in Hartnell history on Thursday. His toss of 49.87m was a season best by three meters and was second overall amongst all schools. The mark also moves the sophomore into third overall in the region. Freshman Joshua Na was not too far behind as he continues to improve in the hammer. His mark of 47.84m was good for third overall and nearly a nine meter personal best. Na also recorded a personal best 13.78m in the shot put. Sophomore Solo Kalemani also flirted with his first 40 meter throw with a personal best 39.11. Corbin Osborn picked up a State "B" mark in the triple jump with a season best 13.49m mark. Sophomore Bryan Ortega had his first 40 meter throw in the discus with a mark of 41.10m. Gianni Ponce led in the 100 meters in his debut for this season at 11.12. Frosh Irvin Hernandez was tops for the Panthers in both the 800 meters (2:12.78) and 1500 meters (4:45.71). Anthony Noriega enjoyed a season best 63.61 in the 400mH.
The Panthers will enjoy a shorter travel day to College of San Mateo for the Bulldog Invitational on Friday, March 20th.
