Hartnell College played host to the 2026 Northern Combined Events Championship
Hartnell College played host to the 2026 Northern Combined Events Championship on April 7-8, providing two team members an opportunity to represent the program and advance to the 3C2A State Championship. In the men's decathlon, a two day, ten event competition, freshman Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar placed second overall with 5,855 points. His point total was good for thirteenth best in program history and advanced the Watsonville graduate to the state championship on May 16-17 at Mt. San Antonio College. Alisal graduate freshman Audreyna Ruiz competed in her first seven event heptathlon and placed fourteenth in the seventeen woman field.
On day one of the decathlon, Aceves-Aguilar started the day with an 11.93 in the 100 meters, good for tenth overall. He would win the long jump competition with a mark of 6.69m and then place third in the shot put with a season best 10.68m. Aceves-Aguilar would earn a State "B" clearance in the high jump with a season best 1.88m that placed second overall. To complete day one, he would run the 400 meters in 55.46. Aceves-Aguilar found himself in second place overall after day one knowing many of his day two events were strong. He would be just off his 110mHH best with a 17.02 time, good for seventh overall. A season best discus toss of 35.67m, moved him back into second place. He would also pole vault a lifetime best 3.63m, good for third overall, and remain in second place before the javelin. Aceves-Aguilar enjoyed a lifetime best 44.34m to place second in the javelin and hold second place overall going into the final event of the day, the 1500 meters. A 5:24.96 performance would hold on to his second place and ensure the Watsonville grad a spot in the 3C2A State Championship Decathlon.
Hartnell College will host its annual Gary Shaw Last Chance Meet on Friday-Saturday, April 17-18.
