The annual Mike Fanelli Classic at San Francisco State University gives the Hartnell College distance runners an opportunity to run under usually ideal weather conditions with experienced four year and club athletes. This year’s meet was unusually warm but the Panthers were able to produce several top marks.

For the men on Friday, Giancarlo Mendo lowered his 1500 meter season best to 4:05.52 with Aaron Eldredge setting a personal best 4:14.84. In the 5000 meters, Julian Vargas eclipsed the 15 minute mark for the second time this season at 14:56.05. Erik Luna Bedolla won his heat in a personal best 15:35.78. Teammate Ivan Martinez-Galindo was right behind in 15:37.18.
Sophomore Adrian Manriquez ran the fastest 400 meters in over 20 years in 48.68 to place second overall on Saturday. That is the tenth fastest time in Hartnell history. Frosh Alex Acevedo remained consistent in the 800 meters at 1:59.64. Giancarlo Mendo set a personal best 2:01.80. Frosh Irvin Hernandez broke 2:10 for the first time in 2:08.86. Christopher Rincon Hernandez also set a personal best 2:10.39. In the 2 miles, Ivan Martinez-Galindo led at 9:51.76 followed by Giovanni Ochoa at 9:52.41.
The Panther will compete next at home for the Gary Shaw Last Chance Meet on Friday-Saturday, April 17-18. Hammer will be contested on Friday with a special Saturday schedule allowing for optimal conditions for state qualifying in all events.
