Softball: Lady Panthers win one, lose one
On Thursday, February 2, 2017 Hartnell College’s Softball Team, played their first home game against West Hills Coalinga College. The Lady Panthers returned to the home field with a win over Merced on Tuesday, with a score of 5 to 3. The rain did not intimidate the Lady panthers for the first match up of the day. However, the conditions did make it challenging for the pitchers to handle the ball. The Lady Panthers led in the first inning, but fell behind in the third inning. With the ability to maintain their stamina, the Lady Panthers quickly arose back on top in the fifth inning. Hartnell’s Kaitlin Shipman and Danielle Caoili both had 4 RBIs. The final score was 10-7.
The second game of the day started with the first and second inning 0 to 0; the Lady Panthers and the Lady Falcons had come to play. The intensity was high and the bases were fully loaded. West Hills Falcons broke the 0-0 streak with a hit that put the team ahead in the 3rd inning, 0-3. High winds picked up and the rain clouds pulled back in, the Lady Panthers continued to stall Falcons from touching base. Unfortunately, West Hills College had taken the win and ended the game 0-5 in the 7th inning. The Lady Panthers didn’t let their loss or the rainy weather get on the way to parade for the second game. Bothteams played two games back to back but were able to put up a good fight till the finish. The loss of this game breaks Hartnell’s 2 game winning streak. Hartnell College’s softball team will host its next double home games on Tuesday, February 7th at 12:30pm and 2:30pm against De Anza College.
