Exciting weeks for Women’s Soccer
In the past two weeks, our Hartnell Women’s Soccer Team played against Clovis. With just 20 minutes into the first half of the game, Hartnell’s teamwork, mindset and skills led #16 Chace Miguel to open the game with the right foot by scoring the first goal of the game, putting Hartnell on the scoreboard, 1-0. In the first half, #23 Claudia Alcantar suffered an injury, nonetheless she turned out to be okay and was eager to get back into the game. Shortly after, Clovis scored its first goal. They had a really good cut-out technique that helped them get on the scoreboard. After many attempts and strong efforts from both teams to score, the first half came to an end. Clovis eagerly tried to score their second goal only to be offside, leaving the game on a tie. Hartnell had its second injured player, #5 Maria Zaragoza, who had to be escorted out, but was seen back in the game after recovery. With 25 minutes remaining in the game, Hartnell fought hard and kept openly communicating to come out as leaders of the game. Unfortunately for the Lady Panthers, Clovis took its chances and scored for a second time, leading the game 1-2. With only a couple minutes left, the Lady Panthers tried to give it their all to catch up, but time did not allow for it. This past week, the Hartnell Women’s Team went 2-1 in 3 games facing quality teams. The Lady Panthers traveled to play against Cañada College on September 15, 2017 in a full team effort. Diana Lopez scored the first and only goal of the game at the 30th minute. On the defense, Maria Isabel Pozos stood out with six saves on cage ensuring a 1-0 win against Cañada. Then, on September 19, 2017 the Lady Panthers visited Cabrillo College for their first Conference game. Unfortunately for Hartnell, the Seahawks came out on top beating the Lady Panthers 2-1. This was a very competitive game keeping the crowd glued to their seats. The only Goal for the Lady Panthers was scored by Brenda Avila and assisted by Chace Miguel at the 20th minute. Later on September 21, 2017 the team faced Cuesta College. Seconds into the game, Lady Panther Brenda Avila scored to set up the tempo of the game, in the 10th minute Chace Miguel scored the second goal of the game for Hartnell. Before the end of the first half of the game, Cuesta page 10 replied back with a goal. During the second half, Chace Miguel scored her second personal goal of the game and the third, game-winning goal for the Panthers. Alondra Sanchez, Teresa Aleman, and Alondra Partida each assisted with all the goals. With this last win, the Lady Panthers record now stands as 4-4-0. The team is looking forward to league play as they host DeAnza College on September 26 at 4:00 PM. Go Panthers!
