The Lady Panthers defeat De Anza!
On September 26, 2017 the Hartnell Women’s Soccer team faced De Anza College at home for their first Coast-South Conference game of the season, after coming off an impressive 3-1 win over Cuesta and with a 4-4 record, just right at .500 and eight games under their belt. The Lady Panthers did not hold back beating De Anza 2-0! De Anza was coming into the game with a 3-4 record and had played seven games prior facing the Panthers. Both teams were evenly matched for each other. Starting off the game it was obvious the team was focused and after defender Arianna Sandoval went down due to injury, the team had no choice but to substitute. At minute 25, Cassidy Shiveley assisted Chace Miguel not only for the goal, but Miguel’s seventh goal of the season, giving the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead. Chace Miguel now leads the conference in total points! Just minutes later the Lady Panthers, continued to assert themselves with another goal from Brenda Avila at minute 35, assisted by Chace Miguel giving them a 2-0 lead just before half. In the second half, De Anza was able to make things a little more interesting, setting a stronger defense not allowing Hartnell to score. Goalies Maria Isabel Pozos and Victoria Dorado contributed two saves each, giving peace to the team and ensuring a 2-0 win over De Anza. The team is now 5-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
