Strader Shines for Panther Women in Modesto
The Hartnell College women's track & field team used a very competitive meet in Modesto at the Jack Albiani Invitational to continue to move toward having a solid representation in the Northern California Championship. Freshman Katelyn Strader lead the women with a season best and State "B" mark in the hammer throw. Her mark of 41.59m moves her into third in conference and eightn best in school history. Strader also improved her regional provisional mark in the discus to 34.26m and took over the Coast Conference lead. Teammate Isabella Reimann moved into second just a centimeter behind at 34.25m.
Freshman Karla Herrera earned a provisional in the 1500 meters in her first attempt winning her heat in 5:08.21. Herrera now gives the Panthers seven of the top eight in the conference. Roxana Ruelas debuted in the hurdles in 17.42 to move to second best in the Coast Conference. Ruelas helped the 4x100 meter relay team of Clodine Tabernilla, Aaliyah Carreras, and Herrera post a season best 52.30 as they chase conference foe De Anza College for the top mark. Freshman Lorraine Mankins improved on her conference leading triple jump to 10.29m. She's just 28cm from the State "B" mark which could advance to this year's championship. Freshman Zaira Hernandez moved into the top eight in the conference in the hammer with her 24.34m.
The Panthers will head down Highway 101 to San Luis Obispo on Friday, March 25th to compete in the Coast vs Valley Challenge hosted by Cuesta College.
