Hartnell Women Enjoy First Coast vs Valley Challenge
Competing in the first ever Coast vs Valley Challenge hosted by Cuesta College, the Hartnell women enjoyed a successful day posting many season bests and improving on several conference or regional top marks. The Coast vs Valley Challenge combined the performances of Cuesta College, Hartnell College, and Allan Hancock for the "Coast Team" and the "Valley Team" was comprised of Fresno City College, Modesto City College, and the College of the Sequoias. The women were victorious for the second time this season in a scored meet format.
Freshman Isabella Reimann found her rhythm again in the hammer throw moving to second best in the state with her 44.54m (146-1.00). That moves her to fifth best all-time as she continues to chase becoming the third woman ever in Hartnell College history to throw over 150 feet. She also improved her discus mark to 35.88m (117-8.00). Freshman Mariah Changco took 18 seconds off her 3k steeplechase mark and met the State "B" mark with her 12:29.10 performance. That is the thirteenth best mark in school history. Gonzales High School grad Ashley Ochoa debuted 12:47.46. Her mark qualifies her to the Norcal Championship and puts her into the top 20 all-time. Freshman Roxana Ruelas improved her 400mLH to 1:07.21 to jump over Cyril Pascua's 67.24 for thirteenth best. Freshman Lorraine Mankins enjoyed a productive day of jumps setting a lifetime best in the triple jump of 10.36m (33-11.50), met the provisional mark in the long jump at 4.78m (15-8.25), and tied her personal best in the pole vault (3.15m/10-4.00). Mankins also posted the best javelin mark for the Panthers this season with 25.63m (84-1.00).
Other highligts of the meet included the women's 4x100 relay improving to 51.80 with Ruelas, Reimann, Clodine Tabernilla, and Marilyn Macias, Sofia Camacho doubling 4:55.11/2:23.79, Isabelle Torres getting the State "B" in the 1500 meters with season best 4:57.08 and winning the 3000m in 10:59.70. Jennifer Mendoza in the hammer (25.76m/84-6.00), and Faith Mora (5:14.26) and Jazmin Mora (5:14.77) achieving the Norcal Provisional mark in the 1500 meters. The pair also have qualifying marks in the 5000m and 10,000m already.
The Panthers will enjoy a busy week in the San Francisco Bay next week with three meets scheduled starting with the Chabot Invitational on Thursday, March 31st followed by the Stanford Invitational and Mike Fanelli Classic over the weekend.
