Hartnell Women Second to DeAnza in Dual Meet
Competing under the traditional dual meet format used by many high schools, Hartnell faced off with Coast Conference rival DeAnza College on Tuesday in a rare community college dual meet. In the three previous editions of the Hartnell vs DeAnza "Duel" Meet, the Panthers had been victorious in two of the affairs but in the return in 2022 the Mountain Lions were able to capatilize on the dual meet scoring to even the competition 2-2 with a score of 99 to 64.
In the women's 3k steeplechase, freshman Ashley Ochoa lowered her first year personal best in the event to 12:19.84 to earn a State "A" mark and pulled teammate Mariah Changco under the mark as well with her 12:24.94. Ochoa sits second in Norcal in the event and will face Chabot College's Angie Palieri for the conference and regional title. Isabella Reimann got a State "B" in the discus throw with a lifetime personal best 37.71m (128-8). The mark is the fourth best in Northern California. Lorraine Mankins cleared 10-6 in the pole vault for the second time this season as she chases the eleven foot barrier. Mankins also had season bests in the long jump 4.80m (15-9) and 100mh (17.37). Roxana Ruelas won the 400mLH (68.49). Sofia Camacho was a double winnner in the 1500m (4:53.38) and 800m (2:23.48) and was second in the 3000m in a season best 10:49.30. Clodine Tabernilla lead in the 100m with a lifetime best 13.27. Aaliyah Carreras debuted in the high jump with 4-7 making her eligible to compete at the Coast Conference Championship.
The Panthers will compete a selected group for the Mt. SAC Invitational on Saturday, April 9th. This meet will serve as the CCCAA State Championship preview meet at the newly renovated Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
