Emerson Posts Two Personal Bests at Norcal Championships
Freshman Jenna Emerson lead the Hartnell College women's track & field team at the 2025 Northern California Championshp with two top four finishes and will take Taylan Flower and Dominayah Black with her to the 3C2A State Championship on May 16-17 at the College of San Mateo. Emerson placed third in the 100mH with a personal best 14.96. This was her first ever performance under 15 seconds and moved the Rancho San Juan graduate into fifth best all-time in Hartnell College. She would return later in the day to get fourth in the 400mLH in a lifetime best 64.54, just 0.02 off third place. That mark moves Emerson into the eighth best position in Hartnell history. She will get one more shot at the state meet meet to move up. Dominayah Black and Taylan Flwoer will be competing in their first ever state championship in the triple jump after placing fifth and sixth overall. Black did not have the State "A" mark but on her first jump of the competition with a personal best 10.73m. Flower put down a 10.71m jump that would soildify her spot to San Mateo. This was second year ever competing in the triple jump for Flower and Black's first year.
Those women who medaled but will not advance were Roselyn Olivo in the 1500 meters (5:00.14) in eighth and Emily Orozco (67.01) in the 400mLH in eighth. Orozco's mark moves her to sixteenth fastest in Hartnell College history. Cristal Baeza cracked thirteen minutes for the first time in the 3k steeplechase (12:55.51) to place eighth in her first year running the event. Arianna Cabrera-Noriega was eighth in the javelin with a season best 28.87m throw. Freshman Yareli Meza placed ninth in the 10,000 meters (44:55.88) and twelfth in the 5000m (20:11.52). Alexa Flores was eleventh in the 10,000m (45:50.85) and twentieth in the 5000m (21:31.21). Marissa Avelar concluded her throwing career with an eleventh place finish int he hammer (36.73m). She was nineteenth as a freshman. Sophia Beltran Espino was eighteenth (33.20m) and Jimena Ortiz Guardado (27.15m) placed twenty seventh. Isolina Barrett was twelft in the discus (35.27m) and will continue her career at Simpson College in Redding next year. The women's 4x100 relay team was twelfth in 51.69 and the 4x400 was also twelfth in 4:12.92.
Flower and Black will compete at the state championship on Friday, May 16 with Emerson running her hurdle races on Saturday, May 17 at the College of San Mateo.
