On Friday, the Panthers got a preview of the host site of this spring's Northern California Championship to be held at Santa Rosa Junior College on May 1-2. The meet was highlighted by top marks by sophomore Jenna Emerson in the long sprints and sophomore Aiden Ishimaru in the hammer throw, which was contested at home on Thursday at Hartnell College. Despite not competing most of the distance crew, the Hartnell women placed sixth overall as a team and the men were seventh.
Jenna Emerson took the day to challenge herself against some of the top flat sprinters by running the 400 and 200 meters. Over the full lap distance she placed third overall recording a lifetime best 58.62. That mark moves Emerson into ninth fastest all-time. She returned to the track later in the afternoon to run half the distance in a new personal best 25.55. That was also the third best mark of the day and tenth fastest in Hartnell history. Emerson added a season best 5.09m long jump that was second overall. Frosh Joceline Carrasco-Tafolla cracked the 100 foot barrier this season with a mark of 30.52m. Sophomore Belle Caasi had a breakout hammer mark of 34.37m which was sixth best amongst the two year competition. The 4x100 relay team of Emerson, Jacqueline Orellana, Chantal Ramos-Verdin, and Audreyna Ruiz recorded their best of the season at 52.55. Newcomer Queen Royal debuted in the triple jump to lead the team at 9.02m.
The Panthers will enjoy a shorter travel day to College of San Mateo for the Bulldog Invitational on Friday, March 20th.
