Competing primarily against four year universities at the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State, the Hartnell College track & field teams were able to show some impressive improvements to finish off the spring break week. With temperatures well above 80 degrees most of the day it favored the sprints and field events more than the distance races which will wait until better weather at the Mike Fanelli Classic in San Francisco.
Sophomore Jenna Emerson was happy to complete her spring break with two season bests. She started the day with a lifetime best 100mh performance of 14.89. That improved on her fifth best mark in program history previously at 14.96. Emerson would lower her 400mLH season best to 64.73, her fourth sub 65 performance of her career. The time makes her third best in the state and second in Northern California. Freshman Gabriela Cardenas found some improvement in the 1500 meters at 4:53.84. That ties her for second fastest in Northern California. Fellow freshman Crystal Madrigal secured a State "B" mark in the 1500 meters with a lifetime best 4:56.50. Deisy Gracida Gabriel also lowered her 1500 meter to 5:01.68. Freshman Joceline Carrasco Tafolla enjoyed a lifetime best in the discus throw (30.72m). Audreya Ruiz (25.63m) continued to perform well in the javelin.
The Panthers will split squads the weekend of April 3-4 with the distance runners traveling to San Francisco State University for the Mike Fanelli Classic. A majority of the team will compete at the Delta Legacy Meet hosted by San Joaquin Delta College on their newly surfaced track. Adrian Manriquez, Nathaniel Aceves-Aguilar, and Joshua Na will represent Hartnell College at the prestigious Stanford Invitational.
