Volleyball Season Closing
Volleyball season has come to an end for the 2017-2018 academic year. The team finished 3rd in league, with an overall record of 18-11 and 7-5 in conference play, and ranked 15th in Northern California CCCAA. “We maintained a high level of play this season with a freshman heavy team. Our sophomores set the bar high and led this group throughout the season. We overcame some ups and downs, yet continued the tradition of elite level volleyball at Hartnell,” stated Head Coach Jamie Pedroza. During the springtime, the team will get to play in three tournaments and will train two days a week. The focus will be on rebuilding by lifting weights, doing plyometrics, and continuing to develop their skills. The following players were selected onto the Coast-North All Conference team. First
Team All-League: Samantha Shaffer Sam came to Hartnell from Salinas High School. She was a co-captain for this year’s team and was a starting outside hitter. She is ranked 4th in the Coast-North conference for kills per set (3.16) and 5th in the conference for kills. Sam led this year's team with 291 kills. She was second on the team with 219 digs.
First Team All-League: Daniela Gonzalez Daniela Gonzalez is finishing up her sophomore season and came to Hartnell from Alvarez High School. Daniela played Middle Blocker and accumulated 147 kills and maintained one of the highest hitting percentages on the team. She is ranked 3rd in the Coast-North conference for Blocks Per Set (0.83). She was this year’s top blocker with 19 solo blocks, and 56 block assists. She will be looking to transfer to a four-year university to continue playing and majoring in Kinesiology.
First Team All-League: Megan Gonzalez Megan Gonzalez came to Hartnell from Carmel High School. She led the offense as a setter and dished out 622 setting assists. Megan is ranked 4th in the Coast-North conference for assists per set (8.41).
Second Team All-League: Marlene Morales Marlene Morales hometown is King City where she attended King City High School. As a sophomore she played outside hitter for the team and totaled 144 kills. She is ranked 4th in the Coast-North conference for service aces per set. She will be looking to transfer to a four-year to continue playing volleyball and majoring in biology.
