Panther Women Earn Strong Runner-Up Finish at Mt. SAC
Competing in the 77th Mt. SAC Invitational, dubbed "The Largest Cross Country Invitational on the Planet", the Hartnell College men's and women's teams once again proved they can handle even the most challenging courses in Southern California. Both squads returned to Salinas with runner-up finishes and increasing confidence toward the post-season in November.
Freshman Gabriela Cardenas fought through illness to record an impressive fourth place overall finish in 19:13. Her mark makes her the eighth best performer in Hartnell history on the historic course. Freshman Crystal Madrigal continued to show improvement by placing tenth overall in her first run on the course. Her time of 20:05 was good enough to crack the top 25 in program history. The Panthers would put three more runners in the top 25 overall to secure a second place team finish. Deisy Gracida Gabriel (21:00) and Janai Orozco (21:03) finished in nineteenth and twentieth. Freshman Jenna Partida was twenty fifth in 21:14. Fellow freshman Angelina Tran (21:23) enjoyed her best race of the season placing in the top 7 for the Panthers for the first time and Alexa Flores (21:44) rounded out of the squad. The Panthers scored 49 points to place second to host Mt. SAC who tallied 23 points.
The Hartnell College women's team will attempt to repeat its Coast Conference Championship from last year when they host the championship at Toro Park on Wednesday, October 29th.
